Jason Statham is Cole Reed, bodyguard to billionaire shipping magnate Tibu (Ramon Tikaram). His boss treats him like part of the family so when Tibu is shot by corrupt policemen on the way home from a function, Cole harbours a vendetta towards those responsible. The late Tibu was on the verge of selling his company, his son uninterested in taking the reins from his father. This business decision clearly worked against the plans of some deeply fishy individuals, so they decide to off Tibu and inculpate Cole.
Cole sneaks his way onto the Artemis, a shipping container, with the passport of one of the killers (who coincidentally is also bald and rugged). Ah, Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt – well, Cole is hunting for answers. What he uncovers in the lower deck shows mankind at their most hideous: a container filled with trafficked civilians. One vengeful man versus twenty thugs of the lowest calibre. You can guess what happens next.
‘Mutiny‘ is a well-executed popcorn flick; a straightforward plot kept afloat with exciting action-packed fight scenes. Annabelle Wallis plays the token female, the sole shipmate with a conscience on a vessel full of wicked seamen. Her character and Cole are in the same boat: save the refugees from the scum exploiting them. Regarding Statham’s performance, he anchors the movie with his aura of reliability, decking the bad guys at every turn without a pause for breath.
